Willow Grove Returns

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I wrote the third installment of the story last night. Now I just have to find time to type it up! It’s one and a half times as long as the previous bit, though not because I was trying to reach a certain word count – I just couldn’t wrap up what I wanted to accomplish without the extra words. I don’t mind that one bit!

Brad’s going to help with the necessary website adjustments I referred to in my last blog entry. Yay! And I should be back on the weekend to talk about the Kanner Lake project, though I bet most of my readers already know about it.

I’m hoping to get more organising done in the church library this week. It needs work, and I love to do it! Good practice for this wannabe-librarian. :)

This is what I get for being a slacker

I can’t remember how to change things on the side of every page on my website. When I’d just started using WordPress, I figured it all out. Now I have little clue. Silly Becca!

Time to read up, ’cause I need to add and/or rearrange a few items as a result of this. :D

Birthday weekend, here I come!

Saturday, June 10th, 2006

I’ve only had four hours of sleep and being at the computer has made me feel more awake instead of lulling me to a drowsy state, but I’m not worried – I’m sure there’s room for naps this weekend. :)

My birthday is tomorrow, but if you’ve seen my birthday rules, you’ll know that when the 11th of June falls on a weekend, I celebrate both days. In fact, Brad and I started even earlier, counting Friday evening as part of the weekend. We rented “Brother Bear,” a hilarious Disney cartoon, and “Dreamer,” a good tale about a racehorse. Still waiting for “Ocean’s Twelve” to come back to the video store. (Only two copies? C’mon!)

The weather forecast is calling for a thunderstorm and some rain today, and mostly cloudy (with chance of rain) for tomorrow. I had hoped the weather would be nice enough to get outdoors and visit a trail or two in the Castlegar area, so we’ll see how that goes. Also want to arrange to see “the fam” a bit, since this is the first birthday in five years that I’ve been so close!

In case the following people check this blog, thank you for the cards and/or gifts: Mandy, Carrie and Valerie. I love snail mail, so you made me smile.

Time to share the birthday rules with my Bookshelf friends and maybe get more rest. Ciao!

Becca’s Birthday Rules

Saturday, June 10th, 2006
  1. Unless it’s impossible to get the day off, never work on your birthday. It spoils the whole purpose, which is to have a personal holiday!
  2. If you can find a way to extend your birthday, do it! Hence the occasionally-used term “birthday weekend” and the rarer “birthday week.”
  3. Have a traditional treat, such as a milkshake or a favourite dessert. Stick to this even when you’re on a health craze ’cause it’s only one day of the year (unless a birthday week(end) comes along).
  4. Avoid spending the day alone, unless you’re very protective about “me time.” Celebrations are sweeter when shared with friends and family.
  5. For women: Go shopping, if possible. A small birthday gift to oneself is a sweet thing. For men: Don’t feel weird about indulging in the self-gift either. Feel free to visit a “man store” (aka hardware or automotive store) to take care of this birthday requirement.
  6. Watch a movie you love, or try a new one. Add chips, popcorn or other snack.
  7. Have at least one beverage you don’t drink every day – the aforementioned milkshake, a special coffee/tea concoction or the soft drink of your choice.
  8. Parents: Do your best to find a babysitter for at least a couple of hours. You need a bit of personal time!
  9. Don’t make your own birthday cake. (That’s for you, Leona! ;) )
  10. Be proud of your age. Wisdom does come with the additional years, and if you’ve had fun while you’re learning, there’s no reason to hide the number of years you’ve been on this earth.

If I think of others, I’ll come back and edit this post. Follow these guidelines and your birthday will definitely be special.

Five days left!

My birthday’s coming! Bring out the milkshakes, along with some cake and ice cream – I deserve a treat! ;)

In other news, I just saw “Ocean’s Eleven” when it made it to TV. I shouldn’t have the let the presence of Brad Pitt in the cast keep me from watching this earlier. Then again, seeing other heist movies (and the short-lived TV series simply titled “Heist”) may have increased my interest in this type of story.

Movies on the To Be Rented list: “Ocean’s Twelve” and “Brother Bear.”

Shows I want to see again soon: “The Phantom of the Opera” (the latest version) and “Equilibrium.”
